The river Wye at the base of Plylimon

Day 3: Rhayader - Llanwrthwl - Newbridge - Builth

Sunday: we started walking to reach Newbridge-on-Wye that day. In the woods and hills we passed we lost each other after Sam and I - being behind Terence and Daryl - decided to shorten the route by following the old railway. Because of that the two of us arrived at about 15:00 hours at Newbridge that, after all, turned out to be the most boring place we met during our trip. No shops, no open pubs, no coffee house, there were almost no people in the streets of this place. The only place with a living being was an antiques shop and the lady running it was nice enough to serve us some fresh chilled water.

After Daryl and Terence arrived we decided to go on walking 10 miles more that day and try to reach Builth Wells. Just before sundown, after many hours of walking through the most beautiful woods I have ever seen, we arrived at Builth and quickly put up our tents on the meadows close to town and just before dark. We were too late for food, we had to sleep through the night on a single roll we were offered by the landlady of the nearby pub. When Terence in a kindly way tried to get us some more food the lady told us: "Now don't push your luck!".
