The final scene

Epilogue: The End of the Day

At the end of that day, just before sundown, we walked under the Severn bridge and finally reached the ultimate point. The walk from Tintern to Chepstow, to me, was one of the most beautiful walks I have ever had. The woods were mysterious, the views dazzling and there seemed to be a profound silence and tranquility in the nature around us.

It seemed that this walk was a never-ending walk. At the end of that afternoon we arrived at Chepstow, had a rest with coffees at the riverside and still we had 3-5 miles to go. This time on hard surface, the pavement of the streets of Chepstow to reach the point where the river Wye tributes to the river Severn. We walked for some more hours and were all very tired and discomforted with blisters.

It was a wonderful moment full of fulfilment and of feelings of friendship. I'm absolutely certain we could not have done this without the others.

We took some pictures there, then we walked back to the van Nick had left at the bridge for us to drive back to Monmouth. Everybody more or less had his own thoughts, the wonderful walk had been done, everybody had to go back to "ordinary" life again. We were all left on our own with wonderful memories. ~ Cees
