Day 8: Hereford - Holme Lacey - Ross-on-Wye

The next day at the racecourse started wonderfully that morning. A fast, beautiful horse ran at the racecourse, all by itself, round after round. Terry and I were sitting in front of our tents watching it end enjoying its grace and power in the morning sun. After a while we broke up our camp, dried our tents in the sun, fold them up in our rucksacks and start walking through Hereford to the River Wye.

Ross-on-Wye First we had a real full English breakfast in the market place, then the two of us start walking in the Ross direction. Following the river we lost our way, we didn't know what to do, to follow the left or right bank of the river. The signs were very confusing or just not there. We decided to follow the left bank but experienced some difficulties there. Sometimes we had to walk on the road, sometimes we couldn't walk near the river at all. At Holme Lacey we had a nice coffee and a rest at a pub.
Bluebells

Some hours later we were walking through wonderful woods filled with millions of bluebells. At the end we arrived at Caplar's Camp, a plain on a hill, plate-shaped, filled with grass and sheep again. From Caplar's Camp we had a magnificent view on the river and the landscape leading to Ross-on-Wye.

Through more woods we met the river Wye again and followed it leading us to the Hole-in-the-Wall, and then there was Ross at the end, in the light it looked like a white church and is wonderful mirroring itself in the River Wye. The houses around the church were as wonderful as a colouring palette as if being put there deliberately by a creative painter.

We had a wonderful rest at the Crown & Anchor waiting for Daryl and Sam to appear. They lost their way as well in the beginning of the day at Hereford and lost each other as well so they both showed up one after the other, hours later.
