retired now and living in Sussex, fifteen minutes from the sea, but I lived in your city as a nineteen year old. I stayed with my sister and her family in the Whitecross area. I loved my time in Hereford, I worked in a grocery store, it was next door to Chadds. the store was called Slattters and I used to ride to work on my BSA motorcycle past the Odean cinema in high town , long before the city was full of precincts and there was a jam factory where Tescos now stand, the swimmimg pool was where the theatre now stands and no new bridge across the Wye.I still vist about once a year and although its not the city I new as a teenager I still have fond memories of that time and certain people.

What has become of the lovely Janet Turner who used to set my heart a flutter at Ross Grammar School in the 1940's?

I left Hereford nearly three years ago to relocate in Spain. I'd like to say Hello to anyone reading this who knew me then. Phil and I are enjoying our retirement and I'm delighted to say I have no ill effects after my brain haemorrhage of four years ago. I miss Hereford, but love our life here. (better weather, too!)

J Hooper:
I am trying to trace the family of a William Hooper who was born in Bestbrook, Radnorshire in about 1806. He was listed as a mercer in Hightown, Hereford City in the 1841 census. In 1842/44 he is listed as a draper and in the 1851 Census he was listed a both a farmer and a draper. He was married to Susannah Swetman in Hay, Brecon, Wales in 1835. They had 3 children, George (b.1837), Susan (b.1839) and Mary Jane (b. 1842). Mary Jane married a George Hale in about 1867. George married Harriett Elliott in 1864 and he and his family migrated to Tasmania, Australia in 1883. William's father's name seems to have been a Thomas Hooper. William may have been related to a James Hooper who was a Grocer and Tea Dealer in Eign Street in 1844. I am really looking for the parents and any possible siblings of William Hooper.
I would appreciate any help I can get.
